Best worldwide supplier of the Volkswagen Group recognized in Wolfsburg.
Outstanding flexibility and innovative ability are the decisive criteria for winning the worldwide Volkswagen Group Award for entrepreneurial performance. HP was there - right up front. At the awards ceremony in the beginning of October, Menno Harms, Chairman of the Board of HP Germany, accepted the prize on behalf of the company from Dr. Bernd Pieschetsrieder, Chief Executive Officer of Volkswagen AG. In the entrepreneurial performance category, VW placed special value on flexibility for new start-ups on the production line, as well as innovative ability with regard to cost optimisation and process improvements.
From a technology supplier to a solution provider
Over the last two to three years, the role of HP in this process has developed from that of technology supplier to that of solution provider. For example, HP was able to successfully construct a supply chain management solution for VW, which was integrated into the B2B platform of the Volkswagen Group. Since May 2002, it has allowed VW to manage supplier data on an across-the-group basis in a way that is simple, fast, and flexible.
"In this kind of project, specialists with various skills are involved who know how to channel their skills and make the best use of their expertise. HP and VW have established a relationship in this project in which each company brings its individual knowledge to the table, adding value to the global database management area," explains Dr. Martin Hofmann, Group Executive Director of Procurement Planning and Strategy.
The supplier database is not the only example of good, flexible cooperation. HP was also able to prove its competence in the areas of data warehouse procurement, data warehousing variant logic and support in an SAP environment. In addition, the service activities in the computer centres were evaluated positively time and again.
Along with HP, other companies were honoured at the ceremony in categories such as product quality, development competence, logistics and environmental protection. In the area of entrepreneurial achievement, an additional nine companies received awards.
