1. When will I receive my Windows Vista upgrade kit?
A:  HP began shipping Express Upgrade to Windows Vista kits in March, 2007. The upgrade kits will be shipped in the order that the date the Proof of Purchase is received and processed by the Upgrade Redemption Center.

2. What products qualify for the HP Express Upgrade to Windows Vista offer?
A:  HP Pavilion or Compaq Presario Windows Vista Capable desktop and notebook PCs purchased between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007 marked “Windows Vista Capable*” are eligible for the HP Express Upgrade to Windows Vista program offer.

3. What are the available upgrade paths?
A:
Customers can upgrade their Windows® XP PC to the following Windows Vista upgrade paths, 32 bit only:

  • Windows XP Home to Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to Windows Vista Home Premium**
  • Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista Business

This program does not offer an upgrade path to Windows Vista Ultimate. If you are interested in upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate, please visit your retailer to purchase the full-packaged-software version. This program does not offer an upgrade path from 64 bit.

4. What is the final date for me to order the Windows Vista upgrade kit?
A:
  The last date to submit the online or phone-in order is March 31, 2007.

5. Do I have to submit my Proof of Purchase? 
A:  Yes. You have to send in an original or a copy of store receipt or packing slip as a proof of purchase to verify your system purchase date and model eligibility before we can complete your order. We recommend that you mail in a copy of your proof of purchase and not the original version. All proof of purchase information must be received before May 31, 2007. Acceptable formats for electronic submission are PDF, JPEG, TIF, HTML, BMP & GIF. You can mail your proof of purchase, or scan it as a PDF file and email or fax it to us at:

6. What is in the Windows Vista upgrade kit?
A:
The upgrade kit for all HP and Compaq desktop PC’s and the majority of HP and Compaq notebook PC’s consists of two DVD’s: one Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System DVD and one HP Solutions DVD with driver updates. For certain HP and Compaq notebooks driver support will be via the web.

7. How much does the Windows Vista upgrade kit cost?
A:  The upgrade kit is free. A $9.95 S&H cost may apply depending on country and or/retailer. In addition, Canadian customers are responsible for any applicable duties, customs duties, taxes and custom brokerage fees. These are subject to Canadian laws and vary by province.  

8. What are the acceptable payment methods for the upgrade program?
A:
  We accept credit cards only-American Express, Visa, Discover and MasterCard. Purchase orders and checks will not be accepted. Your credit card will be billed when your order ships.

9. Where can I find the PC Model number and serial number located on my PC system?
A:

10. Where is the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) number?
A:  The COA ID number can be found on the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label. Please find the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label affixed to the side, bottom or back of your HP PC, which includes a 14 digit COA ID number. It is usually placed next to a bar code. Please note this is not the Product Key number.

11. Can I order the upgrade kit in another language different than the one pre-loaded on my PC system?
A:  No.  The upgrade kit must be in the same language version as the Microsoft operating system pre-loaded on your PC system. The only exception is the French language upgrade kit for Canadian-French customers.

12. Who do I contact for more information or to send in my proof of purchase?
A:  You can call us at Toll free (in the US) 800-817-5602 between the hours of 8am-5pm Mountain Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

13. Will HP support my PC if I have upgraded to the Windows Vista upgrade product?
A:  Yes. HP will support your PC if it is still under warranty by HP.  Please check your warranty policy.

14. Are there any steps I need to take prior to installing the upgrade kit?
A:
To prepare for the HP Express Upgrade to Windows Vista we recommend that you do the following tasks:

  1. Backup all data files on CD’s, DVD’s, or other storage devices. Information for both desktops and notebooks can be found here:

  2. Create Microsoft Windows XP recovery CDs or DVDs and/or order your recovery CDs from HP: For HP Desktops: HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set  
    For HP Notebooks: HP Notebook PCs - Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set
  3. Run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to get an evaluation of hardware and software compatibility with Windows Vista: www.windowsvista.com

15. How many upgrade orders can I submit?
A:
You can submit up to 5 upgrade orders online. To submit additional orders please contact us using the contact information above. Please note that if you are submitting multiple orders you will need to call the Modus Link call center.

16. How can I check my order status?
A:  You can check your order status online at www.hp.com/go/windowsvistaupgrade. You can also call the Contact Center at the number listed (US 800-817-5602 ) between the hours of 7am-5pm MST. Please have your order confirmation number available.

17. Can I return my upgrade kit?
A:  Returns are not accepted for the upgrade kit unless they are due to faulty upgrade kits. In this case HP will provide a replacement upgrade kit at no additional shipping cost. Please contact us by the methods listed above if you feel that your kit is faulty.

18. Is the information I provide online secured?
A: 
Yes. HP understands that your privacy is important. The personal information you provide online will be stored securely by HP and will be used for the purpose of processing your order only.

19. If I have lost my Proof of Purchase, will HP be able to provide a replacement?
A:
 Depending on where you purchased your PC, HP may be able to provide a letter that will provide proof of purchase for the HP Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Program only.

Any PC or HP Digital Entertainment Center purchased from the HP Home and Home Office Store is eligible for a replacement proof of purchase letter by contacting HP Home and Home Office Support.

If you purchased your PC “Configure to Order” (CTO) at any of the following retailers, please contact HP Home and Home Office Support for a replacement proof of purchase letter.

  • CompUSA
  • Costco
  • Office Depot
  • Office Max
  • Staples

20. When is HP releasing drivers for Windows Vista?
A:
  HP will release drivers for consumer products after Microsoft General availability, scheduled for early 2007. Commercial notebook drivers will be available in late December; commercial desktop and workstation drivers will be available after GA.

21. The HP Windows Vista Upgrade kit is a DVD only. If I do not have a DVD drive on my computer, what can I do?
A: 
At this time HP does not plan to offer the Windows Vista Upgrade program via a CD option. However, drivers can be obtained from the HP Support website if your PC does not have a DVD drive.


*Not all Windows Vista® features will be available for use on all Windows Vista Capable PC’s. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run the core experiences of Windows Vista, such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. Some features available in the premium editions of Windows Vista- like the new Windows® Aero™ interface- require advanced or additional hardware. Check www.windowsvista.com for details.

** Note: If you are planning to upgrade a Windows Vista Capable Media Center Edition 2005 PC that is not considered Windows Vista Premium Ready, your system may require additional hardware to run premium features offered with some Windows Vista versions.
