Choosing the Right Red Hat Linux Edition
There are several Red Hat Enterprise Linux editions to choose from. Your choice depends on your application workload, hardware, and support requirements. Selecting the appropriate edition involves answering some simple questions:
1. Are you looking for a client or server solution? What size system are you considering?
The table below helps you select the suitable Red Hat software for your environment. With two server-focused products and two client-focused products, there's a Red Hat Enterprise Linux solution for the majority of applications. Supported environments range from small Intel x86-based systems to the largest mainframe.
2. For the edition you've selected, what level of support services do you require?
The table below identifies the available support options. For further details on how to purchase the subscription, please contact HP Software Licensing & Management Solutions at 1-800-597-4622.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux products are based on a common core kernel, libraries, and utilities, and also share the same major package sets. However, because Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS and Red Hat Desktop are not designed for use in server environments, there are some differences between family members in terms of their server package sets.
Packages that are not in Enterprise Linux WS or Red Hat Desktop include: amanda-server, arptables jf, bind, caching-nameserver, dhcp, freeradius, inews, inn, krb5-server, netdump-server, openldap-servers, pxe, quagga, radvd, rarpd, redhat-config-bind, redhat-config-netboot, tftp-server, tux, vsftpd, and ypserv.
