HP's Acquisition of EDS - Learn more about the Services Portfolio
Content starts here

Rely on a centralized HP utility for capacity that matches your changing needs.

When it comes to data center computing, aligning capacity with often-volatile business demand — and avoiding costly overprovisioning — can be a constant challenge.

That’s why many businesses are moving away from outright ownership of large, often underutilized IT infrastructures. They’re finding it more efficient and less expensive to obtain compute power as an externally provided “service” they can draw on as needed to meet their fluctuating requirements.

HP’s Flexible Computing Services make it easy for you to reap the benefits of this utility approach to enterprise-scale IT.   Like public gas and electric utilities, these services are supplied from and administered by a central outside entity. To deliver consistent, reliable service levels, the compute infrastructure is managed and provisioned by experienced HP Services professionals.

The benefits are substantial. You enjoy direct access to highly available data center computing — including the latest technologies and tools — based on industry-standard platforms and resources. You profit from HP security, management, and applications know-how. And you pay only for the cycles you use, only as you use them.

Large-scale compute power…plus application provisioning…plus HP infrastructure expertise

The HP Flexible Computing Services portfolio includes:

  • HP Flexible Computing Club - A low-risk, low-cost, "try-before-you-buy" way to determine whether utility computing is right for your business; includes start-up and consulting services, a 48-hour pilot project, and other valuable benefits.

  • Infrastructure Provisioning Service (IPS) - Base-level service under which HP provides and manages the hardware infrastructure and installs the operating system; your organization provides and manages the applications and administers the operating system and users

  • Infrastructure Provisioning Service plus Scheduling  (IPS+) - Augments IPS services with HP installation and configuration of batch-scheduling software; your organization manages job schedules and provides the batch scheduling software license and support

  • Application Provisioning Service (APS) - Includes IPS or  IPS+ services and installation of application software; your organization provides the application software license and support

  • Application Provisioning Service for Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) - Complete application utility service includes leading CAE applications for structural, crash, and fluid analysis; enables you to access the entire computing stack (hardware, operating system, and application software) on a flexible payment basis.

A proven approach for delivering as-needed IT availability

HP Services professionals apply a tested, four-step methodology to implement a solution that is precisely geared to your capacity requirements.

Step 1: Analysis - HP specialists work with you to gauge your application and usage demands.

Step 2: Planning - HP specialists and your people jointly forecast your capacity and utility availability requirements.

Step 3: Capacity management - HP adjusts your compute capacity as needed.

Step 4: Operational management - HP manages your day-to-day infrastructure operations.

The HP methodology incorporates IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices — in areas including governance, technology, service delivery, and support — to help your business enjoy consistently high service levels.
