Aligning your IT organization to your business

As you look for ways for IT to deliver greater business value to your company, one of your greatest challenges can be improving the alignment between business and IT.

To help determine how well your IT meets your business needs, HP Services offers a unique Business Relationship Model (BRM). Based on quantitative and qualitative research, as well as a broad base of academic research, this model has been tested on more than 4,000 customers worldwide. Using the BRM, IT strategy and architecture experts on the HP Services team can help you evaluate the maturity of your IT function and its relationship to the business it supports. We can also identify opportunities to improve relationships and add value, as well as develop a plan that enables technology to create more value for your business.

How it works

The Business Relationship Management Service starts with a profiling exercise that offers a snapshot of the maturity of your organization as well as a more detailed picture of current IT and business relationships.

Next, in a structured workshop setting, HP Services strategy and planning consultants guide you through the review of your history, development, and current strategies. You'll then build an action plan that provides a simple framework for identifying challenges within your own IT organization, following a method of defining tasks and priorities needed to help ensure you move along the Business Relationship Model and improve the IT-to-business relationship. The characteristics of IT departments at different stages of the model are:

  • Techno centric - where your IT department and business operations work independently
  • Transition - where both IT and business organizations acknowledge the need for a closer working relationship
  • Business centric - where a very close relationship exists between IT and business
  • Customer centric - where you're working together to focus on your meeting your customers' needs and leveraging new customer opportunities

You'll leave the workshop with a clear understanding of your current position, future position, and - most importantly, how to get there.

Solid process built on experience

Following through the BRM processes, HP Services strategy and planning consultants can help you develop a mission-critical infrastructure with the IT function fully focused on the business, not just the technology. In addition, we can help you build value chains to expand your business potential.
