Benefits of legal-sized scanner glass |
HP All-in-Ones and scanners with legal-sized or larger scanner glass make it easiest to deal with legal-sized (8.5" x 14") documents. For instance:
- A flatbed allows you to copy documents in any condition, while an ADF (automatic document feeder) may not accept wrinkled, torn, or fragile documents.
- Flatbeds are useful for those who work with legal-sized documents such as:
- Contracts
- Trusts
- Real estate documents
- Government documents
- Orders/Invoices

| Add convenience with a second paper source such as this 350 sheet paper tray for Officejet Pro K5400 Printer. |
Before printing on legal-sized paper, remember to:
Some printers, such as the HP LaserJet M3027 MFP or the HP Officejet 8500 Premier All-in-One, feature a second paper tray for surplus paper storage or an additional type of print media. If your printer or All-in-One does not offer a second tray, check out HP’s selection of paper handling accessories to find attachable paper trays designed for a variety of printer series. |
| Use the Copy menu, located on your printer’s control panel, to Set New Defaults. |
When making copies of legal-sized documents, you’ll first need to adjust the paper size setting to Legal:
- Use the Copy menu, located on the printer control panel
- Select Paper size by pressing OK
- Use the control panel arrows to scroll down the choices and select Legal
If the majority of your copies are legal-sized documents, you may find it useful to save Legal as the default setting for future copy jobs (typically, your copy settings will remain for the current job only):

- Press the arrow keys to select Yes, and then press OK
