Wireless to go

These days, entire cities throughout the country are going wireless—among them, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Portland. With this kind of connectivity, you can readily hook up to the Internet with your HP Pavilion notebook PC, HP iPAQ or other handheld device with wireless capability.

Even if you don’t live in a city that’s 100% wireless, you’ve most likely seen “hot spots” in various public places—airports, Starbucks and McDonald’s—that allow you to connect to the Internet. With a wireless-enabled notebook or handheld device you can check e-mail, surf the Internet or share photos while waiting for your flight or enjoying a cup of coffee

Creating a wireless home network

If you have more than one HP PC at home and you can’t stand those tangled cables that connect one to the other, wireless networking is for you. All you need is a broadband Internet connection, a wireless router and wireless-enabled PCs.

A wireless router, like the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, connects to your broadband modem and distributes the wireless signal throughout your home. Most wireless routers allow you to connect a wired PC and/or printer as well.

With a wireless network at home, you can share access to the Internet with multiple computers from a single connection.  For example, the kids can e-mail and chat with friends while parents are working (or surfing) online. Plus, parents can monitor their kids’ Internet access. And since you only need one Internet connection, you save money, too.

File sharing is another advantage of wireless networking. For example, if your resume is saved on your desktop PC in your home office, but you decide you want to update it on your notebook PC in your bedroom, it’s so easy. Simply open your desktop PC folder on your network and access the file.

Note that a lack of cables doesn’t mean your computers are less secure. It’s easy to set up and maintain a secure wireless network at home. For more information, read 10 Steps to Securing Your Wireless Network to learn more.

Printing - no wires required

Another advantage of wireless networking is the ability to print wirelessly. HP offers a variety of printers and All-in-Ones with wireless networking built in, so all you have to do is click “print” from your wireless-enabled PC or handheld device. Don’t have a wireless printer? No problem. You can connect a printer or all-in-one to your wireless router to enjoy the freedom of wireless printing.

Now you can view photos with friends in your living room or access recipes in the kitchen and conveniently print them without having to get up and connect to a printer in the other room.

Select HP printers and All-in-Ones feature Bluetooth® wireless technology, which allows you to print directly from Bluetooth®-enabled digital cameras, cell phones or PDAs.

HP’s wireless entertainment wonders

One of HP’s newest offerings is the amazing HP MediaSmart 37-inch High-Definition LCD TV lets you access movies, music, photos and more from your PC or the Internet. Designed with built-in wireless networking, the HP MediaSmart puts a world of digital entertainment at your fingertips.

By acting as a wireless bridge between your desktop or notebook PC and your home entertainment system, HP’s ew5000 Digital Media Receiver allows you to access digital media files from your PC and play them on your stereo or TV (neither of which need to be in the same room).

So, enjoy the freedom of wireless technology with HP today.
