HP announces the end of sales of the Asynchronous Wide-Area Network (AWAN) controller for HP NonStop systems. Effective December 31, 2008, this product will no longer be available for order or shipment. The AWAN controller connects to an Ethernet port on NonStop systems and handles asynchronous protocols.

Existing AWANs Product IDs are:

16 port: 3886-16
32 port: 3886-32
Current Loop: 3886-CL

The ServerNet Wide Area Network concentrator (SWAN) [3880 and 3881] can handle asynchronous protocols and devices (as well as synchronous ones). SWANs will continue to be orderable. Support for existing AWANs will continue under regular HP support agreements.
